Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the Kraft mayonnaise, dry mustard powder, white vinegar, lemon juice, chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, black pepper, white pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, dry parsley, and Accent MSG (if using). Whisk until smooth and set aside to let the flavors meld.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 teaspoons of butter. Add the chopped white onions and sauté until they are soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In a bowl, mix the ground beef chuck with 1 teaspoon of salt. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties. Make sure the patties are slightly larger than the Texas toast, as they will shrink while cooking.
- Using the same skillet, increase the heat to medium-high. Add the beef patties and cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and top each with Monterey Jack cheese. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked through.
- While the patties are cooking, spread softened butter on one side of each slice of Texas toast. Once the patties are done, remove them from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, place the buttered side of the Texas toast down. Toast until golden brown, about 2 minutes.
- On the unbuttered side of one slice of Texas toast, spread a generous layer of the chipotle sauce. Top with the cooked patty, followed by a portion of the sautéed onions. Place another slice of toast on top, buttered side facing out. Repeat for the second sandwich.
- Return the assembled sandwiches to the skillet over medium heat. Grill each side for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Press down slightly with a spatula to ensure even grilling.
- Once the sandwiches are perfectly grilled, slice them in half and serve hot with your favorite side. Enjoy the rich flavors and satisfying textures of your homemade Whataburger Patty Melt!
Notes
- Wrap leftovers tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
- For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef with a plant-based patty.
- Feel free to swap Monterey Jack cheese for your favorite variety, like cheddar or pepper jack.
