Preparation Steps
- Step 1: Prepare the Mushrooms - Clean the pearl oyster mushrooms under cold water. Pat them dry with paper towels and trim the tough ends.
- Step 2: Make the Marinade - In a mixing bowl, combine dairy-free milk, garlic powder, onion powder, sweet smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, ground cumin, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until well blended.
- Step 3: Marinate the Mushrooms - Add the cleaned mushrooms to the marinade, ensuring they are fully submerged. Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Step 4: Prepare the Coating - In a separate bowl, mix yellow corn flour with fried chicken seasoning. In another bowl, crush corn flakes into smaller pieces, then mix in corn starch and fried chicken seasoning.
- Step 5: Coat the Mushrooms - Remove the mushrooms from the marinade, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Dredge them in the corn flour mixture, then dip them back into the marinade, and finally coat them in the corn flake mixture.
- Step 6: Fry the Mushrooms - Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the coated mushrooms. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
- Step 7: Drain and Serve - Transfer the mushrooms to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce or sides.
Notes
- Ensure your oil is hot enough before frying to avoid greasy mushrooms.
- If the coating falls off, make sure the mushrooms are well-coated in the marinade.
- For a healthier option, consider baking instead of frying.
