Ingredients

Brownie Mix Ingredients
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup melted unsalted butter, vegetable oil, or liquid coconut oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

Instructions
  1. Step 1: Combine the Dry Ingredients - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, and salt. Ensure there are no clumps to achieve a smooth brownie mix.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Wet Ingredients - In another bowl, melt your choice of unsalted butter, vegetable oil, or liquid coconut oil. Allow it to cool slightly before adding in the large eggs, water, and vanilla extract. Whisk these ingredients together until well combined.
  3. Step 3: Mix Together - Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix. If you like, you can fold in chocolate chips or nuts at this stage for added texture.
  4. Step 4: Prepare the Baking Pan - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your baking pan with parchment paper or grease it lightly to prevent sticking.
  5. Step 5: Bake - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Step 6: Cool and Serve - Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Lift them out using the parchment paper, if used, and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For extra rich brownies, add a cup of chocolate chips or chopped nuts into the batter.
  • Make sure not to overbake; the brownies will continue to cook slightly after being removed from the oven.
  • Letting the brownies cool completely will make cutting them much easier and will yield a cleaner slice.
