Scones (Any Flavor)

These scones are incredibly versatile and easy to make! Customize with your favorite flavors for a delightful treat any time of day.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup frozen unsalted butter cold
  • 1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup favorite mix-ins Craisins, blueberries, chocolate chips, pecans, dried cranberries, raisins, etc.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for glaze
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk for thinning the glaze

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Grate the frozen unsalted butter into the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter to incorporate the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, heavy whipping cream, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently fold until just combined.
  6. Gently fold in your favorite mix-ins.
  7. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut into wedges.
  8. Transfer the scones onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
  9. While baking, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth for the glaze.
  10. Once baked, cool on a wire rack and drizzle the glaze over the warm scones.

Notes

  • Freeze unbaked scones for busy mornings; bake directly from the freezer.
  • Store baked scones in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Add lemon or orange zest for a citrus twist!
