Ingredients

For the Brownies:
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate I love using Ghirardelli 100% Cacao
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (1 and 1/2 sticks)
  • 1 and 3/4 cups sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional; raw or toasted with a sprinkle of kosher salt)

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • 8x8 inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper

Method

Baking Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures your brownies bake evenly.
  2. Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, add the unsweetened chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely melted and smooth.
  3. Step 3: Whisk in the sugar until fully combined. The mixture should be glossy and smooth.
  4. Step 4: Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Step 5: Gently fold in the all-purpose flour using a spatula. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Step 6: If using pecans, fold them in. Toast them in a dry skillet for extra flavor if desired.
  7. Step 7: Pour the batter into a greased or lined 8x8 inch baking pan and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  8. Step 8: Allow to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and enjoy!

Notes

  • Don’t overbake for that fudgy texture.
  • Add a pinch of sea salt on top before baking for extra flavor.
  • Let cool completely for cleaner cuts.
  • Experiment with different nuts or add a swirl of peanut butter.
