Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the Dough. If you're using homemade dough, prepare it according to your favorite recipe or use store-bought dough for convenience. Let it rise while you prepare the other ingredients.
- Step 2: Make the Feta Stuffing. In a mixing bowl, combine the crumbled feta cheese, garlic, lemon zest, and half of the fresh herbs (basil and oregano). Mix until well combined, then set aside.
- Step 3: Roll Out the Dough. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a large circle, about 12 to 14 inches in diameter. Ensure that it’s evenly rolled to achieve a perfect crust.
- Step 4: Stuff the Crust. Carefully place the feta mixture around the edge of the rolled-out dough. Fold the outer edge of the dough over the filling and pinch to seal, ensuring that no filling escapes during baking.
- Step 5: Spread the Pesto. Spread the basil pesto evenly over the base of the pizza, leaving a small border around the edges to prevent overflow.
- Step 6: Add Toppings. Layer the shredded mozzarella, green olives, roasted red peppers, and sliced pepperoni on top of the pesto. Sprinkle the remaining herbs and red pepper flakes for extra flavor.
- Step 7: Cheese It Up. Top the pizza with shredded fontina cheese and a sprinkle of grated parmesan or asiago cheese, adding a delicious, cheesy layer.
- Step 8: Bake the Pizza. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Transfer the pizza onto a baking sheet or pizza stone and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- Step 9: Slice and Serve. Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice it up using a pizza cutter and serve warm.
Notes
- Use whole wheat pizza dough for added fiber.
- Opt for low-fat cheese varieties to reduce calories.
- Incorporate more vegetables like spinach or arugula for added nutrients.
- Reheat leftovers in the oven for the best taste, ensuring the crust stays crispy.
