Ingredients

  • 8 oz salmon fillet Choose a fresh, high-quality fillet for the best taste.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil This will help create a lovely crust and add flavor.
  • Kosher salt or sea salt flakes Essential for enhancing the natural flavors of the salmon.
  • Ground black pepper Adds a touch of spice to the dish.
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika Imparts a smoky flavor that complements the fish beautifully.
  • 1 teaspoon chopped parsley This adds a fresh, vibrant touch to your dish.
  • Lemon wedges Perfect for squeezing over the salmon just before serving.

Equipment

  • Oven or stovetop
  • Non-stick skillet or baking sheet
  • Spatula
  • Meat thermometer
  • Cutting board
  • Knife

Method

  1. Start by patting the salmon fillet dry with a paper towel. This helps to ensure a nice sear if you're pan-searing.
  2. Drizzle the olive oil over the salmon, ensuring it's evenly coated. Then, sprinkle Kosher salt, ground black pepper, and smoked paprika on both sides of the fillet.
  3. You can either bake or pan-sear the salmon. If you choose to bake, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). For pan-searing, heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. For baking: Place the seasoned salmon on a baking sheet and bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C).
  5. For pan-searing: Place the salmon skin-side down in the hot skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, then carefully flip the fillet and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.
  6. Once cooked, remove the salmon from the heat and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges.

Notes

  • Store leftover cooked salmon in an airtight container; it can last in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • If you have uncooked salmon, keep it in the coldest part of your fridge and consume within 1-2 days.
  • You can freeze salmon fillets for up to 3 months.
