Ingredients
  

For the Beef:
  • 1 pound flank steak cut into 1/4" thin strips
  • 2-3 cups vegetable oil for frying
For the Batter:
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 each egg
For the Sauce:
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce low sodium
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger fresh, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 each green onions thinly sliced

Method
 

Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Prepare the Beef. Cut the flank steak into 1/4" thin strips for quick cooking.
  2. Step 2: Marinate. Combine soy sauce, water, and dark soy sauce in a bowl, add beef strips, and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Step 3: Make the Batter. Whisk together cornstarch, all-purpose flour, white pepper, egg, and water until smooth.
  4. Step 4: Heat the Oil. Heat 2-3 cups of vegetable oil in a large frying pan or wok over medium-high heat.
  5. Step 5: Coat the Beef. Dip marinated beef strips into the batter, ensuring they are completely covered.
  6. Step 6: Fry the Beef. Fry the coated beef strips in batches for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Step 7: Make the Sauce. In a separate pan, combine remaining water, rice vinegar, brown sugar, chili flakes, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Simmer until the sauce thickens.
  8. Step 8: Combine Everything. Add the crispy beef strips to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
  9. Step 9: Garnish and Serve. Transfer to a serving platter, sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions, and serve hot.
