Directions: Dried Orange Slices
- Start by washing the navel oranges under cool running water. This helps remove any wax or residues on the skin. Pat them dry with a clean towel.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the oranges into approximately 1/4-inch thick slices. Aim for uniform slices to ensure even drying. You can remove any seeds as you go.
- Line your baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the orange slices on the sheet, ensuring they do not overlap. This allows for proper airflow and even drying.
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). Once heated, place the baking sheet in the oven. Let the orange slices dry for about 2-3 hours. Flip them halfway through to promote even drying.
- The orange slices are done when they feel dry and slightly leathery but not brittle. They should retain a bit of flexibility. If they need more time, continue drying, checking every 30 minutes.
- Once dried, remove the orange slices from the oven and let them cool completely. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature.
Notes
- Try sprinkling spices like cinnamon or nutmeg on the slices before drying for extra flavor.
- Experiment with different citrus fruits for unique flavors.
- Store dried slices in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
