Ingredients

For the Dried Orange Slices:
  • 4 large navel oranges

Equipment

  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Oven

Method

Directions: Dried Orange Slices
  1. Start by washing the navel oranges under cool running water. This helps remove any wax or residues on the skin. Pat them dry with a clean towel.
  2. Using a sharp knife, cut the oranges into approximately 1/4-inch thick slices. Aim for uniform slices to ensure even drying. You can remove any seeds as you go.
  3. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the orange slices on the sheet, ensuring they do not overlap. This allows for proper airflow and even drying.
  4. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). Once heated, place the baking sheet in the oven. Let the orange slices dry for about 2-3 hours. Flip them halfway through to promote even drying.
  5. The orange slices are done when they feel dry and slightly leathery but not brittle. They should retain a bit of flexibility. If they need more time, continue drying, checking every 30 minutes.
  6. Once dried, remove the orange slices from the oven and let them cool completely. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

  • Try sprinkling spices like cinnamon or nutmeg on the slices before drying for extra flavor.
  • Experiment with different citrus fruits for unique flavors.
  • Store dried slices in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
