Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your cookies bake evenly.
- Line your baking sheets with parchment paper. This will help the cookies bake evenly and prevent them from sticking.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking soda, and cream of tartar until well combined. Set this mixture aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Add the large egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture, and continue to mix until fully incorporated.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Gently fold in the plain M&Ms, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the cookie dough.
- Using a cookie scoop, portion out the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For chewier cookies, add an extra tablespoon of brown sugar.
- Use different types of M&Ms for variety.
- Store baked cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
