Ingredients
  

For the Cookies:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup plain M&Ms

Method
 

Instructions:
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your cookies bake evenly.
  2. Line your baking sheets with parchment paper. This will help the cookies bake evenly and prevent them from sticking.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking soda, and cream of tartar until well combined. Set this mixture aside.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  5. Add the large egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture, and continue to mix until fully incorporated.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  7. Gently fold in the plain M&Ms, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the cookie dough.
  8. Using a cookie scoop, portion out the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For chewier cookies, add an extra tablespoon of brown sugar.
  • Use different types of M&Ms for variety.
  • Store baked cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
