Instructions:
- Step 1: Prepare the Wonton Chips - Begin by heating peanut oil in a frying pan over medium heat. You want enough oil to submerge the wonton wrappers but not too much that it splatters everywhere.
- Step 2: Fry the Wonton Wrappers - Once the oil is hot, carefully add a few wonton triangles to the pan. Fry them until they become golden brown and crispy, about 1-2 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate. Sprinkle with a little kosher salt while they’re still warm.
- Step 3: Make the Cannoli Dip - In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole-milk ricotta cheese, granulated sugar, orange zest, vanilla extract, and chopped candied ginger. Use a spatula to mix everything together until well combined and smooth.
- Step 4: Add the Chocolate Chips - Gently fold in the semisweet mini chocolate chips into the ricotta mixture. This step is key to ensuring you don’t break the chocolate chips while mixing.
- Step 5: Serve - Transfer the cannoli dip to a serving bowl and serve alongside your crispy wonton chips. You can garnish the dip with a few extra chocolate chips or a sprinkle of orange zest for a pop of color.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- For a healthier option, substitute granulated sugar with coconut sugar.
- To re-crisp wonton chips, place them in a toaster oven for a few minutes.
