Ingredients

For the Caramel Cheetos:
  • 2 cups light brown sugar
  • 1 cup margarine or butter
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 package (20.5 oz) crunchy Cheetos (original)

Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper

Method

Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Prepare Your Baking Sheet. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Step 2: Make the Caramel. In a large saucepan, combine the light brown sugar, margarine or butter, and light corn syrup. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Step 3: Add Baking Soda. Once boiling, remove the saucepan from heat and carefully stir in the baking soda.
  4. Step 4: Combine with Cheetos. In a large mixing bowl, pour the caramel over the entire package of crunchy Cheetos. Toss gently to coat every Cheeto.
  5. Step 5: Spread on Baking Sheet. Transfer the caramel-coated Cheetos onto the prepared baking sheet and spread them out evenly.
  6. Step 6: Let Cool. Allow the Caramel Cheetos to cool completely on the baking sheet.
  7. Step 7: Break Apart and Serve. Once cool, break apart and transfer to a serving bowl.

Notes

  • Stir the caramel continuously to prevent burning.
  • Be cautious when adding baking soda as it bubbles up significantly.
  • Use unsalted butter for a more pronounced flavor.
  • Don’t skip the cooling step; it sets the caramel properly.
