Ingredients

For the Buttered Potatoes:
  • 2 pounds red potatoes scrubbed and cut into large chunks
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • to taste salt and pepper

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Colander
  • Large skillet
  • Spatula or wooden spoon
  • Measuring spoons

Method

Instructions:
  1. Start by placing the scrubbed and cut red potatoes into a large pot. Fill the pot with water until the potatoes are fully submerged. Add 1 teaspoon of kosher salt to the water. Bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and let the potatoes cook for about 15-20 minutes or until they are fork-tender.
  2. Once the potatoes are tender, pour them into a colander to drain the water. Allow them to sit in the colander for a few minutes to let the steam escape. This helps to remove excess moisture, which is crucial for achieving that perfect buttery texture.
  3. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the drained potatoes to the skillet. Sauté them for about 5 minutes, allowing the potatoes to get a little crispy on the edges.
  4. Add the 4 tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Let it melt and coat the potatoes evenly. Stir gently to ensure all the potatoes are well covered in the buttery goodness.
  5. Finally, taste the potatoes and season with additional salt and pepper as desired. Once they are perfectly seasoned, transfer the buttered potatoes to a serving dish. Serve warm and enjoy the delicious flavors!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding minced garlic while sautéing the potatoes.
  • Feel free to experiment with different herbs like rosemary or thyme for a twist.
  • These potatoes can be made ahead of time and reheated for convenience.
