Ingredients

  • 1 pound wild-caught sockeye salmon Fresh salmon is key for the best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce This is the star of the dish, lending sweetness and heat.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce I recommend using low sodium for a balanced taste.
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar Adds a tangy note that complements the sweetness.
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger root Provides a warm, zesty kick.
  • 1 tablespoon honey Enhances the sweetness of the dish.
  • 1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce For an extra layer of heat.
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
  • Green onions sliced, for garnish (optional)

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper or aluminum foil
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk or Fork
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Sharp knife

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). This temperature is perfect for baking salmon, allowing it to cook through while retaining moisture.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, honey, and chili garlic sauce. Whisk until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  3. Place the sockeye salmon on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Pour the marinade over the salmon, ensuring it is evenly coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes for the flavors to meld beautifully.
  4. Once marinated, transfer the baking sheet into the preheated oven. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork. The internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C).
  5. Once the salmon is done, remove it from the oven. If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds and sliced green onions on top for an added crunch and freshness. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Fresh salmon is always recommended, but frozen sockeye salmon can be used if it's properly thawed.
  • Feel free to make the marinade ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • If you’re short on time, marinating the salmon for just 5 minutes still yields tasty results.
