Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp cold butter cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Pastry cutter or fork
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Rolling Pin

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat the Oven. Start by preheating your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Step 3: Cut in the Butter. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry mixture and cut it in until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Step 4: Add the Buttermilk. Make a well in the center of the mixture and stir in the buttermilk until just combined.
  5. Step 5: Turn Out the Dough. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently 3-4 times.
  6. Step 6: Roll and Cut. Roll out the dough to about 1-inch thickness and cut out rounds.
  7. Step 7: Bake! Bake the biscuits for about 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  8. Step 8: Enjoy. Let them cool slightly and serve warm with butter, honey, or your favorite jam.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, substitute coconut oil or vegan butter.
  • You can freeze leftover biscuits for up to 3 months.
  • Experiment by adding herbs or cheese for a twist!
