Ingredients

  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt heaping
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 yellow onion sliced into ½-inch rings
  • Extra-virgin olive oil for drizzling
  • Tartar Sauce optional, for dipping

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Cooking Spray or Brush
  • Cutting board
  • Knife

Method

  1. Start by peeling the yellow onion and slicing it into ½-inch rings. Gently separate the rings and set them aside.
  2. In one bowl, place the flour. In a second bowl, whisk the eggs. In a third bowl, combine the panko bread crumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, and sea salt.
  3. Take each onion ring and dip it into the flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing the excess to drip off. Finally, coat the ring in the panko mixture, pressing lightly to ensure the crumbs stick. Repeat for all onion rings.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Once preheated, arrange the breaded onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Make sure they are not overcrowded to allow for even cooking.
  5. Drizzle a little extra-virgin olive oil over the onion rings for added crispiness. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.
  6. Once cooked, remove the onion rings from the air fryer and let them cool slightly. Serve with tartar sauce or your favorite dipping sauce, and enjoy the crunch!

Notes

  • For a healthier option, use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour.
  • Cook in batches to avoid overcrowding and ensure even cooking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
